The AGOA was enacted in May 2000 under President Bill Clinton. It makes provision for 39 eligible sub-Saharan African countries to export more than 6,400 products to the USA duty-free. Since its introduction in 2001, exports from African countries to the US have more than quadrupled according to figures from the US International Trade Commission. Under AGOA, exports from Mauritius to the USA grew from Rs. 4.3 billion in 2011 to Rs. 8.1 billion in 2014.
